Chief Minister Reviews the Activities of the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized that athletes in the state will be provided with world-class sports facilities, residential training, quality education, and nutritional support by identifying 8-10 key sports disciplines prevalent in the region.
He said that the main objective is to ensure that the sportspersons from the state secure medals in national and international competitions. “We are committed to expanding sports facilities.
Our mission is to elevate our sporting talents to the international stage,” said Chief Minister Sai while issuing guidelines to officials during the review meeting of the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare at his residence office today. Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare, Tankram Verma, was also present on the occasion.
Chief Minister sought detailed information from officials regarding the sports infrastructure available across the state.
He mentioned that from Surguja to Bastar, the state has no dearth of young sporting talent; however, there is a need to nurture and refine these abilities.
Chief Minister Sai instructed officials to compile a list of proposals submitted for Centre’s approval so that they can be pursued during his upcoming visit to New Delhi.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Shri Sai also reviewed the works of Khelo India Centres across the state and directed officials to conduct regular inspections to ensure the smooth functioning of these centers.
Referring to the National Archery Academy being set up in the remote Sanna region of Jashpur district with support from NTPC, Chief Minister Sai highlighted that this initiative will not only contribute to the development of the region but will also provide a platform for the local Pahadi Korwa tribe, known for their inherent archery skills, to showcase their talent.
Chief Minister further directed officials to ensure the effective implementation of decisions taken under the ‘Niyad Nellanar Yojana,’ aimed at enhancing sports facilities in the Naxal-affected areas of the state. “We have recently made significant decisions keeping in mind the interests of our sports talent. It is our responsibility to create a conducive environment for sports talents to thrive and flourish,” he asserted.
Secretary of the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, Himshikhar Gupta, provided the Chief Minister with updates on the construction of integrated sports complexes in Jashpur and Raigarh.
He also briefed about the ongoing development initiatives, including the Sports Decoration Awards, the Krida Protsahan Yojana, and other upcoming projects for the overall advancement of sports facilities.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain, Secretary of the Revenue Department Avinash Champawat, Chief Minister’s Secretaries P. Dayanand and Rahul Bhagat, along with other senior officials.
