Plan in progress to export honey overseas from Chhattisgarh’s Kanan Pendari Honey Processing Centre
he Kanan Pendari Honey Processing Centre (HPC) in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district gains recognition for producing high-quality honey.
Tribal honey collectors have earned Rs 31 lakh through the state government’s minimum support price (MSP) initiative.
The centre’s pure and delicious honey can be purchased at Sanjeevani sales centres and C-Mart, attracting a wide range of customers, including both the younger generation and senior citizens.
The Kanan Pendari HPC, managed by the Forest Produce Co-Operative District Union of Bilaspur Forest Division, was established in the fiscal year 2006-2007. Honey collectors from various areas, including Belgahna, Khudia, Kota, Katghora, Korba, Dharamjaygarh, and Marwahi in Bilaspur Circle, bring raw honey to the centre for processing.
According to Forest Department officials, a majority of the raw honey collectors at the processing centre are from the tribal community.
These collectors have received a total benefit of Rs 31 lakh through the state government’s MSP scheme for their raw honey.
Moreover, the raw honey collectors have undergone training on ‘non-destructive methods of the honey collection’ conducted by Gramopayogi Vigyan Kendra situated in Wardha, Maharashtra, aimed at increasing honey production and boosting their income.
The Kanan Pendari HPC is renowned for its exceptional qualities. The honey produced is completely natural, free from any adulteration.
Each season offers a distinct flavour profile, with benefits ranging from heart health to immunity boosters and weight management. The processing centre utilises a machine with a capacity of 300 kg/day, filtering the honey and reducing the moisture content to 18–19% for superior quality.
After processing, the honey is stored for 21 days to settle before being packed in various bottle sizes, including 200g, 300g, 600g, 800g, 1200g, and 5kg.
These products are then distributed to Sanjeevani sales centres and C-Mart. The Kanan Pendari HPC prioritises purity by conducting tests to ensure there is no adulteration and checking the moisture levels using a refractometer.
Stringent quality control measures are implemented to maintain the integrity of the honey throughout the production process, guaranteeing a genuine and high-quality product for consumers.
The honey produced by the Kanan Pendari HPC has gained a unique reputation, appealing to people of every age group. It is particularly liked by both the younger generation and senior citizens.
The Kanan Pendari HPC obtained a licence for processing organic raw material in 2021–2022, and it strictly adheres to organic regulations in the collection, processing, and packaging of honey.
The HPC is currently undergoing an export certification process for international shipments.
There is a plan in progress to export honey overseas from Chhattisgarh’s Kanan Pendari Honey Processing Centre.
