Women of Self help group will get employment opportunities with increased income
On the auspicious occasion of Republic Day on 26th January, the cow dung based natural paint unit was inaugurated by School Education Minister Dr. Premsai Singh Tekam in Gram Panchayat Keshavnagar of Surajpur district. During this, Collector Ms. Iffat Ara and Superintendent of Police Ram Krishna Sahu, Chief Executive Officer District Panchayat Ms. Leena Kosam, local public representatives and other officers, employees and villagers were present in the inauguration ceremony of this unit.
It is noteworthy that this is the first cow dung based paint unit established in the district and this unit is being operated by the women of self-help groups of the Gram Panchayat. The cow dung based natural paint will be manufactured as distemper and emulsion paint which will be prepared by adding 30 percent of cow dung. This unit has the capacity to make 500 liters of paint per shift.
This natural cow dung based paint is at par with the quality of branded paints being sold in the market.
Moreover, this natural cow dung based paint also has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, environment-friendly, natural heat-insulating, economical, heavy metal-free, non-toxic and odorless properties.
Looking at the benefits of the usage of this paint, the Government of Chhattisgarh has given instructions to use natural paint made from cow dung for painting all government buildings.
Generally, the branded chemical paint available in shops ranges from 200 to 600 rupees, whereas the cost of cow dung-based paint costs half compared to the branded chemical paint.
The district administration is also planning to fix its rates according to different colors after quality checks. The income generated from this will also make the women of self- help groups financially empowered.
It is noteworthy that different types of small-scale industries will be established in the selected 12 Gauthans of the district under the state government’s scheme of Rural Industrial Park.
Under this scheme, extensive work will be done to provide employment to women of self-help groups. Similarly, natural cow dung-based paint unit has been launched under this in the first phase.
