The Tadoki–Rowghat railway line and the Abhanpur–Kurud broad-gauge railway line will be inaugurated in the presence of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai.
New Rowghat–Raipur and Raipur–Kurud passenger services will also be launched, and the foundation stone will be laid for an electric locomotive maintenance facility in Raipur. Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw will join the programme through video conferencing.
Congratulating the people of the state on this historic achievement, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai said that rail connectivity to Rowghat represents more than an expansion of the railway network.
It is an important step towards connecting remote areas of Bastar and southern Chhattisgarh with new development opportunities. It will improve access to education, healthcare, employment, trade and transport facilities, giving fresh momentum to the region’s socio-economic development.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that railway infrastructure in Chhattisgarh is witnessing unprecedented expansion under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The double-engine government is committed to extending modern transport facilities to the state’s remote and tribal areas and ensuring that the benefits of development reach the last person.
Rail Connectivity to Rowghat to Accelerate Bastar’s Development
Construction of the 95-kilometre railway line between Dallirajhara and Rowghat has been completed at a cost of approximately Rs. 1,628 crore. Completion of the 17.5-kilometre stretch between Tadoki and Rowghat marks the completion of this important project.
Rail connectivity to Rowghat will provide residents with better transport facilities and easier access to education, healthcare, employment and trade opportunities. It will also encourage industrial and economic activities. The link will be important for transporting iron ore from the Rowghat area and meeting the requirements of the country’s steel industry, including the Bhilai Steel Plant.
Abhanpur–Kurud Broad-Gauge Line to Ease Travel to the Raipur
Gauge conversion of the 22-kilometre railway line between Abhanpur and Kurud has been completed under the Abhanpur–Dhamtari gauge conversion project. Its inauguration will expand rail connectivity in the area and provide passengers with better access to the state capital, Raipur. Work is underway on the remaining Kurud–Dhamtari section of the project.
The new Rowghat–Raipur and Raipur–Kurud passenger services will provide direct rail connectivity for students, working professionals, farmers, traders and other passengers. These services will also encourage activities related to education, healthcare, trade, agriculture and tourism.
Modern Locomotive Maintenance Facility to Be Developed in Raipur
The foundation stone will also be laid for an electric locomotive maintenance facility in Raipur. Once developed, this modern facility will have the capacity to maintain 300 high-horsepower electric locomotives. It will help ensure smoother railway operations and meet growing freight transport requirements.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the new railway lines, passenger services and modern railway infrastructure will give fresh momentum to Chhattisgarh’s development. The sound of the train whistle reaching Rowghat will mark not only the beginning of a journey, but also a new era of development, trust and opportunities in Bastar.
