Modern infrastructure to provide better training opportunities and prepare local talent for state and national-level competitions

The Chhattisgarh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, is strengthening sports infrastructure across the state to nurture emerging talent and provide players with access to better training facilities. In a significant step in this direction, a multi-purpose indoor basketball stadium has been constructed in Jashpur, the Chief Minister’s home district, at a cost of ₹3.52 crore.

The facility is expected to provide young players with improved opportunities to hone their skills, practise regularly and pursue their sporting ambitions. The development of modern sports infrastructure is also aimed at encouraging greater participation in sports and helping local talent progress towards competitive events at the district, state and national levels.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai inaugurated the multi-purpose indoor basketball stadium during his visit to Jashpur on March 28, 2026. The facility provides a dedicated venue for practising a range of indoor sports, offering players a more conducive environment for training. It is particularly significant for talented youngsters from rural and tribal areas, who stand to benefit from improved access to sports infrastructure and opportunities to develop their abilities.

Basketball, chess, carrom and table tennis under one roof

The multi-purpose indoor stadium offers facilities for basketball, chess, carrom and table tennis, enabling children and young people to pursue different sporting disciplines at a single location. The availability of these facilities is expected to encourage regular practice and help players improve their skills in their chosen sports.

The indoor facility also allows players to continue training without being unduly affected by adverse weather conditions. While basketball helps develop physical fitness, alertness, coordination and team spirit, chess, carrom and table tennis encourage concentration, strategic thinking and mental alertness.

By bringing facilities for multiple sports together within one complex, the stadium is set to strengthen sporting activities in the district and provide young players with a more accessible environment for regular training.

Creating opportunities for rural and tribal sports talent

Jashpur has considerable sporting talent, with children and young people actively participating in disciplines such as cricket, football, hockey, kabaddi, basketball and table tennis. Providing aspiring athletes with better infrastructure and opportunities for consistent practice is an important step towards helping them realise their potential.

The new multi-purpose indoor stadium will enable local players to refine their techniques, improve their performance and prepare for competitions at the district, state and national levels. The facility is particularly valuable for talented children and young people from remote rural and tribal areas, as it provides them with improved access to organised sporting opportunities and encourages them to pursue their interests with greater confidence.

Access to dedicated training facilities can also help instil discipline, perseverance and a competitive spirit among young athletes, strengthening the foundation for the development of sports in the district.

Sports development receives emphasis under Chief Minister Shri Sai’s leadership

The Chhattisgarh government is placing special emphasis on promoting sports and strengthening sports infrastructure across the state, with a focus on encouraging youth participation, nurturing emerging talent and creating better opportunities for aspiring players.

The multi-purpose indoor basketball stadium in Jashpur, built at a cost of ₹3.52 crore, marks a significant step towards this goal. The facility is expected to encourage greater participation in sports and promote a culture of regular practice among young players. Access to modern sports facilities will help players from the district hone their skills, improve their performance in competitions and bring laurels to Jashpur and Chhattisgarh.
