‘Har Ghar Jal’ brings tap water to all 90 homes in Dandjamdi…

Jal Jeevan Mission brings change to remote villages under Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai’s leadership

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s ‘Har Ghar Jal’ vision has brought piped drinking water to all 90 households in Dandjamdi gram panchayat of Gaurela block in GPM district, easing a long-standing challenge for villagers.

For years, residents had to walk to a distant well to collect water. The new household connections have made daily life easier, particularly for women who spent considerable time and effort fetching water.

The development is part of the Jal Jeevan Mission, launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on August 15, 2019, to provide safe drinking water through household tap connections in rural India. In Chhattisgarh, the mission is being extended to remote areas under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai.

Tap water eases years of hardship

For Dandjamdi resident Smt Lalita Wakre, getting water from a tap at home has brought relief from a daily struggle. She recalled that collecting water earlier meant walking to a well located far from her house, which took considerable time and effort. Now that clean drinking water is available at home, her family’s daily routine has become easier and the worry of arranging water has reduced.

Her experience reflects the change being brought by the Jal Jeevan Mission in rural areas, where household tap connections are reducing the time and effort spent, especially by women, on fetching water.

Gram panchayat takes responsibility for water system

All 90 households have been provided tap connections, with the supply of clean drinking water now operational. The gram panchayat has been entrusted with the operation and maintenance of the system to ensure its continued functioning.

Gram Panchayat Sarpanch Shri Injor Singh Dhurve, Panchayat Secretary Shri Ratan Singh, members of the Village Water and Sanitation Committee and residents have been sensitised about water management, conservation and rainwater harvesting. Villagers have also been encouraged to protect local water sources and use water responsibly. Community participation is a key component of the Jal Jeevan Mission, with local involvement aimed at ensuring the long-term upkeep of the water supply system.

A change beyond the tap

The availability of household water is reducing the time and effort families once spent collecting it, while improving access to safe drinking water. For Dandjamdi’s 90 households, the shift from a distant well to a tap at home marks a practical change in everyday life. The initiative also places greater responsibility on the community to conserve water sources and sustain the facility for the future.
