Late Pandit Vamanrao Lakhe relentlessly worked throughout his life for the economic development of farmers and the strengthening of cooperative organizations in the state.
In Chhattisgarh, he is known as the ‘father of cooperatives’. Due to his efforts, the first co-operative bank was established in Raipur.
Today lakhs of farmers in the state are getting the benefit of efforts made by him in the field of cooperatives.
He played an important role in spreading public awareness during the time of freedom struggle and led many important movements.
He laid the foundation of journalism here by publishing the first monthly magazine of Chhattisgarh.
