Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has paid tribute to freedom fighter late Pandit Vamanrao Lakhe on his birth anniversary which falls on September 17.
Remembering the invaluable contribution of Shri Lakhe, the Chief Minister said that Lakhe Ji relentlessly worked throughout his life for the economic development of farmers and the strengthening of cooperative organizations in the state.
He is well-known as the father of cooperatives in Chhattisgarh and he was the one to establish a cooperative bank in Raipur.
His efforts in the cooperative sector have benefitted lakhs of farmers in the state. During the freedom movement, he played an important role in creating mass awareness in Chhattisgarh and led many freedom movements.
He published the first monthly magazine of Chhattisgarh thereby laying the foundation of journalism in Chhattisgarh.
His magazine played an important role in the development of national consciousness.
CM Baghel said that Lakhe Ji’s hardworking personality and spirit of selfless service will inspire others.
