The word Malkhamb has been formed by joining two words: Malla and Khambha. Their meanings are respectively gymnast and pole, making the words literal meaning: gymnast pole, which is used by gymnasts for traditional training.

Malkhamb had emerged in the 12th century in the Maharashtra state of India.

Malkhamb is a game that provides exercise to the whole body and keeps it fit.

It is not as simple as it appears. It requires the strength of muscles. One needs a lot of hard work and perseverance to learn it.

In Malkhamb, there is a straight pole that has to be climbed while performing Yoga with gymnastics. It is one of the most ancient sports in India.

The pole in Malkhamb is made with Sheesham and Sahwan woods. Oil is applied on top of the pole.

After that, the pole is buried in the ground and used for performing the sport.
